We were pleased to take part in the second event of “RE-GENERATION II — Culture giovanili, pratiche artistiche e rigenerazione territoriale”, a series of meetings exploring the relationship between youth cultures, artistic practices, and territorial regeneration.

The seminar, titled “Designing Matter and Sound: Design and Electronic Music in the Irpinian Apennines”, featured Rossella Flammia and Paolo Picone of ORTOGONALE, who presented the experience of their studio-laboratory and their creative journey between design, craftsmanship, and music.

During the talk, they explored the evolution of ORTOGONALE: from its origins between Berlin and Italy to its current base in Carife, in the Irpinian Apennines. The discussion focused on the role of design as a tool for dialogue between contemporary practices, local materials, traditional craftsmanship, and sustainable approaches.

The meeting also highlighted the relationship between different creative languages within the studio’s practice. Paolo Picone presented his experience as a musician and curator of electronic and dub music events in Irpinia, reflecting on sound as a cultural practice and as a possible instrument for community building and territorial regeneration.

Through the intersection of matter and sound, the seminar investigated how contemporary creativity can contribute to the reactivation of peripheral territories, creating new connections between local identity, innovation, and cultural production.
