[English] In the occasion of Mestieri Domani, an exhibition focused on traditional crafts in danger of extinction in the rural regions of southern Italy’s inland, the association Irpinia Mia asked us to design a product in combination with the “fiscelle” by Maria Vittoria, an artisan of selvatic junkus in San Nicola Baronia (AV), one of the very last basket weaver in the region.
The resulting product is a handwarmer/tea cup that combines the traditional cheese rush basket (the “fiscelle”) with a removable porcelain cup.

[Italiano] In occasione di Mestieri Domani, mostra sui mestieri tradizionali del territorio dell’Irpinia, l’associazione Irpinia Mia ci chiede di elaborare un prodotto in abbinamento alle “fiscelle” di Maria Vittoria, intrecciatrice del giunco selvatico di San Nicola Baronia (Av), una delle ultime intrecciatrici del territorio dell’Irpinia.
Il progetto è quello di uno scaldamani che combina il tradizionale cestino di giunco dei formaggi (la fiscella) con una tazza in porcellana bianca matta estraibile.

Materials: Wild Juncus and Porcelain, transparent glaze (internally only).
Productive process: Juncus, handmade work by Maria Vittoria (San Nicola Baronia, Irpinia, Italy); Handmade porcelain casting technique in handmade chalk moulds; drilling, grinding and glazing by hand, Firing: 1250°.
